Paper Bags and Glass

This is probably my favorite piece of the 4 that got into the show. It's a pencil drawing of 2 paper bags and the glass goblet with 3 cubes in it.
The dilemma with this piece is that the right side (the side I started on) looks good and I'm very pleased with it--although the bottom of the glass is a little off. But the left side was so much trouble! I am not completely sure why I was having trouble with it, but I think it's one of those times when you just can't work anymore!

So I did come back later and finish it, so it's not as bad as it was!
I hope to get a better photo of this soon, unfortunately the fact that it is in the gallery, behind glass, and there are tons of lights everywhere, is why my photo is not as detailed as the true piece.

This piece received an "A"!!! I was so excited :-)

Still Life of Colored Construction Paper

Edited: Dec 1

My latest was made of 3 pieces of colored construction paper. 2 of the pieces had to be complementary colors (the orange and the blue), but we could choose whatever color we wanted for the 3rd (the green).
We were supposed to show how color reflects surrounding color in this project
Ex:
-The green alone the blue "floor"
-The orange added in the left fold on the green
-The blue in the green cavity
-The green in the cast shadow on the orange background

This piece ended up on the "art of the week" wall too :-)
I'm not sure what grade I got on it yet but i would imagine that I got an "A" for it. This class isn't quite as awful as my drawing class when it comes to grades

Color Piece

Ok, first of all I want to present the problem with abstract pieces. This piece is hanging sideways - I had it so that the red berries were in the upper right hand corner. It doesn't matter too much, but that is how it was when I was working on it so it just looks strange to me!
Anyway...
This is a piece that I painted using Gouache - an illustrator's paint. The point of the exercise was to copy the design from a piece of fabric with a bold print and to cut a small piece out of the fabric and place it on the canvas. Then the canvas is divided into 6 sections:
1. Fabric (the small piece of fabric that was cut out)
2. Color matching (match the colors in the fabric)
3. Complementary Colors
4. Opposite Value
5. Opposite Intensity
6. Color matching

This piece was an "A"

Conte Still Life

Still life using Conte - which is a lot like Charcoal. The still life was a little off (the cone on the left was tilted slightly) and so I drew it how I saw it. Unfortunately that throws the whole composition off and when the viewer does not have the still life right in front of them, then the piece just looks wrong.
Oh well, I guess that's one of the "artistic liberties" that I am supposed to take.

This was actually done before the other light study began but I couldn't get a picture of this one before now.

This piece was given a "B+"

Light Study

Edited: Dec 1
This is a still life that my professor put together so we could study light. We were given a black sheet of paper and a piece of chalk.

I really liked it and I kinda want to do it again :-)

I got a "A-/B+" for this piece
Don't ask me what that means, I have no idea!

Contour of Dead Rose

This is a contour drawing of my friend's dead rose.
This drawing was put on the "Drawings of the week" board in the hall of the art center! Needless to say I was pretty excited and surprised

I received an "A-" for this piece, an almost unheard of grade for my Drawing class!

Large Magnolia Flower

This is a picture I took of a Magnolia flower (the same Magnolia tree that was used in other photos). I loved it -unfortunately my feet were in the shot and I didn't notice until I had left. But now, thanks to my favorite person EVER, the feet are now gone and this photo is lovely :)

Metal Bracelet

Metal bracelet I made about 2 years ago.

Ring of Paisley

Necklace made of cut metal pieces. Each piece was because with a jewelers saw, sanded, drilled, buffed and formed so that each piece was identical. This necklace took me about 3 months to finish - the first time around I made each piece a little too big so I had to file them all down to a smaller size - needless to say, that was a pain!

Wire Rings

Wire rings made on a ring mandrill. Super easy, they probably took me 3-5 minutes each

"Black Lace" Necklace

This is a necklace I made with black wire and beads. I had to make each piece individually, which was difficult because each piece had to be the same size.
If you click on the close up photo you can see evidence of the work that went into creating this necklace.

Me

I had to draw a myself with a silly face. I didn't like the idea at first but it turned out well and it was put in a traveling art show - which is always flattering.

Two Pots And a Wooden Duck

This is one of my favorite paintings, unfortunatly it's not a very good picutre. My camera didn't capture the bright colors, the flowers or the wooden duck very well. But that's ok, you get the idea.
Anyway, this painting took me a long time but the hard work was well worth it.

Flowers in a Chest

Still life of some flowers in a chest. I just love the contrast in this one as well as the bright colors in the flowers.

Mother's Day Gift

Still life I painted for my mom for Mother's day. I wanted it to be a surprise, so I could only paint for 30 minutes at a time but I finished soon enough and she was surprised!
:)

Monochromatic Painting

A monochromatic painting that I did last fall. I hated it at first but now it's one of my favorite pieces.

Bleached Fabric

I bleached some fabric using leaves, branches and grapes. It was a lot of fun, but the bleach destroyed one of my brushes and my hands were in pretty bad shape for about a week.

Charcoal

Still life I did in charcoal last fall

Jilian

This is a drawing that I did of my friend Jilian about a year after she was killed in a car accident.

Early Morning Horizon

Across a Mississippi beach in the early morning. This photo was taken just before the sun peeked over the horizon.

Sand

Photo of the sand at low tide. I just love the texture and movement in this photo.

Magnolia Tree

I took this photo while I was sitting in the magnolia tree in front of my church.

Seagull at Sunrise

Another sunrise photo with a seagull. This is one of my favorite photos, I just love it.

Two Seagulls at Sunrise

This is a photo I took in Mississippi. There are two seagulls - one flying and the other is walking along the beach.
