Cute Old Lady

This is probably my best piece of the semester. This isn't the greatest picture of it, but it's hanging up in the gallery right now, so this is about as good as it will get until September when I get the piece back.
From my 2D class. We were studying textures, and I had to find 20 different textures and re-create a photo out of them. 20 two inch squares. Each a different texture. Each trying to blend in with the others. Each helping to create the same face.
Anyway, I picked a photo of this adorable old lady! Definitely my favorite piece of the semester, and now that it is in the Show I have gotten a lot of compliments on it!!

Pure Design

This project was my last one for 2D design. Pure design, with one dominant element, and one dominant principle.
I decided to have Emphasis for my Principle and Line for my Element. I'm not very proud of this piece, in fact I wasn't going to post it but I figured it was only fair. Unfortunately I struggle with pure creativity a little more than my peers, and I'm kinda burned out... haha - oh well, maybe I'll re-do it over the Summer and regain some of my dignity!
I'm now done with intro to 2D design now. I still have some things to post from this class, and I'll try and get those up as soon as possible - I hope you've enjoyed it so far!
I received a "B" on this piece - Professor Shaw wasn't very fond of it either I guess! haha

Value Project

So this is my latest painting for 2D design. We each picked a photo and had to paint a simplified version of the photo - we were only allowed to use 7 different values and there was absolutely NO blending! (I was disappointed about this)
On top of that, we had to create a mirror image of the painting that we created, and it had to be in the negative - so that each spot that was white would be black in the mirror and vice versa.
I spent my entire Easter Break working on this piece - it was rough and took many hours! haha, but it did pay off because my Professor (Shaw) left me a few good comments on it and placed mine on the board!
I did get an "A" on this piece but was really excited to have it on the 'Work of the Week' board!

Space Study - 2D

This is a 3-part study we did in my 2D design class where we worked on transparency, overlap, and size to show space in our pieces. We were only allowed to use letters from a specific font for each piece, and had to create a design that would represent each space technique.
This was a lot of fun, though I wish I was able to think of some more creative pieces -- unfortunately I was sick and didn't have much of an imagination...
HOWEVER! Each of these pieces received an "A" and one of them (not shown - will add later) was placed on the "work of the week" board!

Tessellation

This piece was created by first carving the design that I chose into a linoleum block, and then using the block as a stamp, and turning this stamp to create a tessellation. I had to create a piece that would work well with itself -- positive and negative space -- even if I were to turn it 4 times (a requirement)
I only received a B+ on this project, and I am pretty disappointed about that.

Morph

This is a 9 step morph. The first step was "representational" piece and in 3 steps I had to change it into an "abstract" piece, from there finally becoming the "un-representational" piece.
I got an "A" on this piece and was very excited about that =)

Combo Line Study

This is my "combo" line study for my 2D design class -- using both organic line and geometric line.
I kinda wish now that I had done one of my other designs for this study, but I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

Organic Line Study

This is the "organic line" drawing of my 3 part line study for 2D design
This piece received an "A-" and got onto the "work of the week" board =)

Geometric Line Study

This picture is one of three line studies that I have to do for my 2D design class. This is the "geometric line". I had to display actual line and implied line.
The implied line is the white stripe that isn't really there but our eyes automatically connect the ends of the thinner lines and creates the elusion of a line.
This piece received an "A" but didn't get on the board when my A- piece did... hmmm
