Value Project
So this is my latest painting for 2D design. We each picked a photo and had to paint a simplified version of the photo - we were only allowed to use 7 different values and there was absolutely NO blending! (I was disappointed about this)
On top of that, we had to create a mirror image of the painting that we created, and it had to be in the negative - so that each spot that was white would be black in the mirror and vice versa.
I spent my entire Easter Break working on this piece - it was rough and took many hours! haha, but it did pay off because my Professor (Shaw) left me a few good comments on it and placed mine on the board!
I did get an "A" on this piece but was really excited to have it on the 'Work of the Week' board!
End of Semester SHOW piece!!!

A Woman of God...
According to Provbers 31, a noble woman of God...
... works with eager hands (v.13)
... sets about her work vigorously (v.17)
... opens her arms to the poor and needy (v.20)
... can laugh at the days to come (v.25)
... speaks with wisdom (v.26)
... watches over the affairs of her household (v.27)
... does not eat the bread of idleness (v.27)
... is praised by her husband and children (v.28)
... fears the Lord! (v.30)
That is the challenge. Let's see how it goes

Delightful day - 4/17
Today has been simply lovely. Not only is it Friday and I am done with my classes by 12:10, but the weather is fantastic, Chapel was inspiring, and there is tons to do! (okay, not TONS, but we can finally go outside!)
The photo is of Emily and me--voted best (future) roommates ever--sitting outside in front of Gainey with some friends. We were out there for at least 2 hours, and we went for a walk before that!
I got to go outside this morning during my 2D class. We had to gather some interesting textures for a project we are doing. Then we had chapel, which is unusual for a Friday, but there were Juniors visiting overnight last night so they had to see it! It was wonderful, and just what I needed - God is good!
Psychology was pretty much the same as always (long and kinda dull - with just a splash of interesting), and unfortunately I found out that I am going to have to study more than usual for the quiz on Monday. However! My peer review for the big paper in psych went over really well and I didn't have to make many changes at all - so I was actually able to finish it and print it off already (due next Friday)!
Relay for life started today. Tessa's (current roommate) parents came up for it. Mrs. Neubacher is a cancer surviver - so it's always exciting to see her doing well and feeling good! There is also a concert tonight at the track, so I'm looking forward to seeing that soon.
It has just been a great day. While there has been some disappointing/frustrating areas today, God has just outdone Himself, and I am SO thankful!
To top it all off I had Reese left =)
Space Study - 2D
This is a 3-part study we did in my 2D design class where we worked on transparency, overlap, and size to show space in our pieces. We were only allowed to use letters from a specific font for each piece, and had to create a design that would represent each space technique.
This was a lot of fun, though I wish I was able to think of some more creative pieces -- unfortunately I was sick and didn't have much of an imagination...
HOWEVER! Each of these pieces received an "A" and one of them (not shown - will add later) was placed on the "work of the week" board!

Little Bit of Me
I thought I would put a real post up. One without artwork - if I can even do that - where I share a little about what is going on in my life.
My freshman year at Spring Arbor U is going really well - I am so thankful for the wonderful friends that God has given me. I have worried about finding strong friendships at college on and off throughout high school. I shouldn't have worried (2 Chronicles 20:17), I have not been alone through any of this - and I did not have to fight any battles by myself. Not only did I have my mom a phone call away but I had friends and leaders helping me every step of the way. I have been so blessed, and each person that has been placed in my life has come to my rescue at some point or other!
As this semester is beginning to close (5ish weeks!) the stress is beginning to take over. All of the unimaginable projects, papers and tests that our professors threatened us with at the start of the semester are finally becoming a reality. And I am always surprised with how much worry I can create in myself. Although the next few weeks are going to be really tough (beginning tomorrow actually...), I am sure that I will survive! haha However, my main concern is receiving excellent grades so that I can keep my academic scholarship for next year.
Thank heaven for Chapel and Bible study! Chapel is my one break on Mondays and Wednesday (up at 7 and going full speed until 5 - then dinner!). SAU chapel is just wonderful, and I don't know what I would do without it! Even though some of the speakers are not as satisfactory as others, they still have a good message to share. And the worship is just amazing!
Bible study is another break for me. I have one with my floor on Monday nights and another with my Core group (Pure Awesome Core 12!) on Tuesdays. I love these, not only because I am able to study my Creator and what He wants for me, but the fellowship is SO important to me! I sometimes want to explode after doing homework for hours and I need to be around people! I feel very close to both my floor and my Core group and I am not worried about opening up when I struggle or stumble. I love it! But sometimes I do worry that I get on everyone's nerves because I talk so much!
It is now time for bed (my love for sleep never dies). I head back to SAU tomorrow afternoon. I only hope that I can quickly get my butt in gear so that I can complete each task that I have to accomplish over the next few weeks.
ps. I couldn't resist the photo - my RA is growing rather famous for the number of fish she has killed over the past few months (8 or 9 fish spent their final moments on Gainey 3rd South). So when I saw her fish in the bathroom I couldn't help but leave her a little note =)
Positive / Negative Space - 3D
I made this in my 3D class - just finished it on Wednesday actually. In this picture the paint is still a little wet but that's okay.
We were studying Positive and Negative space and I had to cut an object (positive space) out of wood (negative space) and then design them accordingly. My original idea only had one piece - the piece with the positive space sticking out of the negative space. However, Professor Garn thought he would challenge me (and he sure did!) and suggested making the other two pieces as well (another design idea I had come up with, but representing a leaf rather than a floral).

Tessellation
This piece was created by first carving the design that I chose into a linoleum block, and then using the block as a stamp, and turning this stamp to create a tessellation. I had to create a piece that would work well with itself -- positive and negative space -- even if I were to turn it 4 times (a requirement)
I only received a B+ on this project, and I am pretty disappointed about that.
