DTS logo

Logo design that I did this semester.  I haven't quite finished the entire identity system, and I haven't even presented the logo to the owner of the company (hehe, they don't know that I took over their identity system).  I doubt that I will even show them to be honest, I just needed something for my assignment!
Anywho, feedback welcome—it's obviously a tax service, so I was going for professional and I threw things together.

Geometric Sherlock

Here is my last design for Graphic Design 3.  HOORAY! I'm finally done with that class!!!  I grew a whole lot, but I'm glad to be headed towards a break, though I'm having more trouble then I can express with actually relaxing.  I have this thought in the back of my mind that I'm not quite done yet, even though I am in no mood to do anything productive—academic wise anyway.
Anyway, I am obviously getting distracted (another quality that is consistent with my newly–freed, brain–dead–self).  Even when I began this design, I was getting rather frustrated and ready to be done.  I wanted to try a more abstracted illustration and came up with this design.  Not sure how it works, or if it even represents the book / target audience well, but oh well, it's done now!

Feedback welcome, I am thinking about just scrapping this piece and trying something different...

Package for Logo

Here is the package design that goes with one of my recent logos.  Created for my GD3 class, the logo went over better than the actual package design—go figure, lol
Anywho, feedback welcome as I modify it for future shows (possibly...)

Fire & Birds

Yet another logo design!  This one has a package design with it, but I'm not entirely finished with it yet, so you will have to bare with me. I will post it shortly (well... probably in about 2.5 weeks—when finals start and my load eases, hah)

Poster Design—Adoption

This is my latest poster design for my GD3 class.  I wanted to do a typographic portrait—but I had no idea it would turn into something quite this large!  It took me a long time to make this, and while it's not yet perfect, I need a break from it!
I'm struggling still with the "abortion" and "adoption" balance—I want you to see "adoption" as the more dominate element, but I want "abortion" to still have an impact.  It's kind of the foundation behind some of the symbolism in this piece, so it's important.  Also, can you read the text?  I know it's difficult, but I hope after a moment or two you will be able to catch the verses (there are only 2)
Feedback would be MORE than welcome on this piece—I'm leaning towards making this one of my show pieces for the semester, so I would like to perfect it before then :)

PhotoShop—Weakened

Photoshop is one of my least favorite programs. I know everyone loves it, but I guess I would rather not work with photos—I'd rather draw! Anyway, for this project (better image coming soon...) I was forced to work with a weakness. So out of my many photoshop weaknesses, I selected photo manipulation. I found a tutorial and worked from there.
Target audience wise, my roommate has a beautiful voice, and she has always wanted to work with and encourage young girls who struggle with body image and are trying to trust fully in God. It's a great mission :)

My classmates suggested the texture in the background. I'm still unsure about it and will probably mess with it a little more, but this is what I turned in for my midterm. I thought the crinkled paper might be a little too cliche, but maybe not...
Feedback? :)

Illustrated Origami

Here is a book cover design that I created for my Graphic Design 3 class. I had to make it in illustrator (fav!), but do something I haven't done before. And I haven't done a more realistic piece yet. To be honest, I have no interest. If I want it to actually look realistic then I would rather do it on paper.
But I did this design for the class—and it didn't kill me :) If you zoom in you can see that the entire piece was created with the pen tool—just layers and layers of colored shapes.
The hand still isn't done, the photo I used as a prop was a weird angle, so I might just re-do the entire thing. But for now, I need to take a break from it!
Feedback is more than welcome as always—at least one more revision will be made before the end of this class.

Weaknesses—uncovered

For my Graphic Design 3 class I had to make something in InDesign that incorporated my weakness.
Layout.
Phooey. So this is the result: a tri-fold brochure. For someone who also dislikes feet, this piece is challenging. I have no idea how it came across—but I suddenly had a heading (that I didn't use...) and the brochure was in process!
Feedback? Please?
I am not too thrilled with the current heading (center left), but I didn't get any comments on it (good/bad) during the critique and didn't even think about it... hmmm

Humming Choir Logo

My latest project :)
Pure play.
Well... that's how it started anyway.
I had so much fun with this piece and, thankfully, my critiques really liked it too! I got only good reviews on this project.
It's a logo design for a classical children's choir. I started off with the top hummingbird image. My roommate and I were playing around with Origami for a while and it's kinda stuck with me! Adding the sheet music design just became the icing on the cake—and though it won't work for all forms of publication (thus the variations), it adds something unexpected—something that hasn't been done before.
I really battled with the typography. I wasn't sure if I should go with something to mimic the origami folds, or if I should go with something more readable and sophisticated. I finally ended up with my favorite sans-serif font (don't ask why, but I like it and use it all the time), with a little modification to create a visual hum. And despite the battle, I think it turned out really well!
Anyway, I'm tickled with how it turned out—hopefully my other future critics will like it as much as my classmates and instructor did tonight!

Open Mic Night

This is the first project for my Graphic Design 3 class this semester. We were not given any guidelines, just told to create a project in InDesign. Not the ideal situation—while fun, it was far too broad a playing field for me to feel very comfortable. This is what I came up with—a poster design for the Open Mic Night that is going to be on campus later this month.
I really struggle in InDesign as a whole. Layout is not my strength, and even with this piece I had to try many entirely different situations before coming up with this one. It just doesn't come naturally to me, though I hope it gets better as time goes on. Feedback welcome as always—I'm sure the critique tomorrow evening will be rather brutal, and I plan on reporting after that.
